Most companies using a VMI service have basic expectations. They figure if the bins have inventory, their supplier is doing their job. It’s not crazy to expect more. Here are 5 questions you should be asking.
- Do you see yourself as a delivery service?
At Southern Fasteners & Supply, our VMI program is an extension of our warehouse located in your facility. We provide good housekeeping practices along with being 5S compliant. Delivery of our product is a value added service provided at no additional cost to you. While on site, we get acclimated to your business and learn your trends and usage. Based on these reports, we can make a professional recommendation on any changes necessary.
- Do you see any processes here that could be improved?
We understand your company runs like a well-oiled machine, but it’s good to hear opinions from a fresh set of eyes. For example, one our Service Technicians wondered why they were delivering so many bolts to a customer. After conversing with his customer, an alternative product was offered which offered great efficiency. Click on this link to read the full story. We will work closely with your maintenance personnel and purchasing department to ensure you’re running as efficiently as possible.
- Can you change your normal service to accommodate us?
At Southern Fasteners & Supply, we realize our customers’ needs are not identical. We work with our customers to tailor a customized service schedule that best fits your needs. We understand emergencies happen, and that’s why we offer 24/7 Emergency Services. With this service, you’re provided with the contact information for your Service Technician, local Branch Manager, and an emergency hotline number. Again, this is a value added service offered at NO COST to you.
- What technology do you use to enhance your service?
All of your product is barcoded with labels so our Service Technician can scan orders and upload to our system with one click. This allows for reduced down time and quicker turnaround of your product. We also provide usage reports on demand, min/max levels to ensure you have the right amount of inventory just in time. If you’re using specialty or per spec items, our quality department has an optical comparator to provide a precise measurement of your parts.
- Do you have any questions for us?
At Southern Fasteners & Supply, you’re more than a customer. We consider it a partnership. We want to make the transition to our VMI program as seamless as possible. Don’t worry if your current vendor threatens to take away your bins. Chances are, you have paid for them. If they take the bins, we will work with you and get replacement bins quickly and have you up and running in no time. We will continue to improve our services to you by asking questions along the way.
